President of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa acknowledged that the confrontation against the LTTE is over and with this declaration he assured his country Tamil people that the protection of Tamil population is the responsibility of his government and don’t need to feel any fear on this issue.

Rajpaksha in his addressing in parliament a day after the army claims of wiping the LTTE including its supremor Prabhakaran, he said that the victory against the LTTE has been achieved. Rajpaksha speaking in Tamil and Sinhalese said that the protection of all the residents of his country whether they belong to any community is his own responsibility and duty, and he looks after each and every help to the people who are affected from this war. The main thing to notice in his speech was there was no mention of the prabhakran the LTTE chieft, though a pro-LTTE website had claimed that the prabhakaran is still alive and safe.
