In an outrageous attack on Pakistan Army Headquarters, heavily armed terrorists in military uniforms tried to break into Pakistan’s army headquarters leading to a heavy exchange of fire between security personnel and the terrorists that continued for about half an hour outside the army headquarter in Rawalpindi. The gruesome gun battle that followed for about half an hour, led six security personnel dead and many injured as they engaged the terrorists. In order to secure the area an army helicopter was seen hovering over as the firing ensued. Four terrorists have been reported to be killed in the encounter while it is said that two have managed to escape. Search for the escaped terrorists is going on.

A militant group called Tehreek-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. The audacious assault, that killed six security personnel and left several troops injured, follows a series of militant attack and bombings in Pakistan in a week and came as the Pakistan prepares for a major offensive against Islamist militants in Taliban’s strongholds.

Rawalpindi Police official Mohammed Jalil has told that heavily armed gunmen in white van tried to drove into the army compound just before mid day (local time)and opened fire as they were intercepted by the security personnel outside the army headquarter. An army officer on the promise of anonymity has told us that many High Rank military officers were trapped inside the Army Headquarter as the firing was going on.

Militant outfits have carried out numerous attacks and bombings in high security areas in Pakistan all through this year, and the frequency of such terror acts is on the rise. These attacks are believed to be retaliatory action of Taliban backed Islamist militants that are constantly being targeted in US drone attacks.
