The World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand of India restrained former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov of Russia in consecutive two meetings to win the swift 4 game chess series by 3.5-0.5. Anand, who was actually leading the series by 1.5-0.5 after winning the 1st game & drawing the 2nd with Karpov at Bastia, beat the Russian in both the two remaining matches to achieve a magnificent victory. It was actually a Queen’s maneuver declined by the Russian in the 1st game and thus Anand got an opportunity after Karpov who didn’t placed his queen appropriately. Karpov’s situation became submissive and he was burdened with a task of just protecting his game with a little counter play up to the end of the match that actually lasted only 30 moves.

“Karpov’s Queen on ‘c5′ was in a mess as I had few ways to intimidate it. After I gained this advantage, he actually slowed some time for a try to defend,” the Indian Chess Master said after the 1st game. In the last game Anand was actually in no – mood to give away the match. Karpov gave the resign after only 32 moves. “I really tried to play the match aggressively. It was too difficult to give an exact estimation,” the champion said after the series victory. The Indian champ will now go to Moscow to compete in the Tal Memorial – chess championship which will be starting from 5th November, possibly the toughest event of this year.
