HOW THE NEWS WAS ANNOUNCED?
Google is the parent company of You Tube, therefore, it announced this on its blog that the automatic captions are going to be enrolled all through out the sites in all corners of the world. Even about 6 channels which are being run by the Universities are also a part of this initial establishment.
WHAT IS EXCITING ABOUT THE AUTOMATIC CAPTIONS?
- The automatic captions are machine generated and are at first will be sired in English language only.
- At initial stage they will be introduced only at 13 channels. It includes Columbia, National Geographic, most of the channels of Google and you tube.
- The engineer who designed this software and technology is Ken Harrenstien who is a deaf himself.
- At present, you tube will offer you with manual form of captions and services but is not under use for video makers.
- There is automatic speech recognition solution available with the current caption system and design.
- Every technology has a space to get improved; therefore, the translation system of this technology is not a perfect one at all times. For example, it shows “sim-card” as “salmon” in the text. Mr. Harrenstien said that it will improve with the passage of time.
