Team India became a number one team in Test rankings on Sunday after they spanked Sri Lanka by an innings with 24 runs in the third and final cricket Test that clinched the three-match series by a margin of 2-0. Needing just the four wickets to make a record of emphatic victory, the team India took just 40 minutes to polish off the Sri Lankan team’s tail to record their second consecutive innings victory.
Resuming at 274 -6, the Sri Lanka lost their heroic captain Kumar Sangakkara in very first over and were bundled out at 309 with Zaheer Khan being lucky among the Indian bowlers with the figures of 5/72. The opener Virender Sehwag blazed with 293 runs The crowd at the Brabourne Stadium hosted a Test match after 36 years and witnessed a historic moment. The Indian players hugged each other beaming the coach Gary Kirsten who greeted them as they returned to pavilion
This victory has given India three points in ICC rankings, making overall tally of 122 and leaving them ahead of the South Africa and Sri Lanka in ICC table. Now both the teams will gear up for two Twenty20 matches in city of Nagpur and Mohali followed by a five-match one-day series that will begin at Rajkot from December 15.
