The fifth and the final one-day international between Sri Lanka and India got abandoned after 23.3 overs on Sunday due to unfit nature of pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. Sri Lanka had toiled on the tricky surface to reach 83 for five after being put in to bat in the bad foggy conditions when the match was called off after pitch was deemed too dangerous to play on due to the unpredictable bounce.
The Play was temporarily suspended following the on-field conference between the captains- Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara, the on-field umpires and match referee Alan Hurst. The parties had come together after delivery from debutant Sudeep Tyagi took off from a good length and flew over Thilina Kandamby’s head.
The Further discussions went on behind the closed doors in the pavilion before the decision was made to call off the proceedings. India had already won this series following their seven-wicket triumph in the fourth ODI at the Eden Gardens on Christmas Eve.
The Sri Lanka’s innings suffered a disastrous start when Zaheer Khan bowled Upul Tharanga through the gate with a very first ball of the match. The opener also was left with a reminder of his efforts by Ashish Nehra when ball rose up and struck him right on his elbow. Sanath Jayasuriya made a top score with 31needed treatment after being hit on the gloves.
