On Thursday, Dmitry Medvedev, President of Russia, proposed some major reforms in respond to the heavy protests that took place in the capital after the news spread that the elections were tainted with fraud. These reforms had details about the liberalization of the political system in Russia. However, sternly said the government will not allow the protestors to make any harm to the political stability of the country.
On the other hand, the opposition party said that they will welcome the changes, but they are not sufficient in any manner. In the mean while, the officials of the election made it clear that any kind of violation will be punished pretty hard. No mercy would be given to the extremists. The Russian president, on his last address to his nation before elections, said that our country requires democracy, not chaos. He also said that government will be able to resist the pressure being applied on them from foreign countries.
The elections that were held in December 4 were a total fraud resulting in general protests by the people against the government. In the elections, the United Russia party lost average seats. As a result, a lot of people broke out on the road forming massive and long rallies. Leaders from the opposition party say that majority of United Russia’s seats were retained by fraud. In between, there is a lot of buzz about the rejections for re-elections from Medvedev and Putin. They said that votes have clearly reflected what people want. On Thursday, Medvedev told press reporters that “government will not allow the protests to get out of control, and any interference from foreign countries would not be tolerated at all.” Putin also jumped into the conversation, and he suggested that proper control should be there in the political system of our country.
