The role of a biomedical equipment technician is to inspect, install, modify, calibrate, repair and test the medical instruments and equipments that are used in treating and diagnosing diseases. Biomedical Equipment technicians are also sometimes called upon to provide training to the medical personnel so that they can learn to operate and handle the equipment safely. Those interested in this field must have a strong scientific background as well as effective electro-mechanical skills.
Some basic duties of a biomedical equipment technician may include the complete dismantling of the equipment so as to locate the main reason of malfunctioning, replacing or repairing of the defective parts and then reassembling of the equipment while arranging precision components in accord with the blueprint specifications. They may also perform safety checks on radiation and electrical equipments and should know how to change or add original components in order to meet specific diagnostic or therapeutic requirements.

- Electromedical Equipment Repairer: They are required to maintain preservative maintenance related to electromedical equipments present in the hospitals.
