The Zune is all about the software that is Microsoft’s third major revision to its wannabe iPod killer. The different thing with this is one feature really stands out that is the ability to buy songs off the radio as they are playing. Candidly is the Company representative & told about the hardware updates are minor, new colors & increased capacity that really make it outstanding. This new version has a 120GB Zune and 120GB iPod Classic both cost $250 & a 16GB Zune and a 16GB iPod Nano both cost $200 & more over they are nearly identical.
Microsoft has focused its efforts on improving the desktop software and the Zune firmware instead of innovating on the hardware. Usability of the listening and browsing experience & adding some gee-whiz effects to the “Now Playing” screen is also included in this new version. Click to buy option for the zune’s fm radio is the most significant firmware update. By tying this data to a shopping cart is the fresh theme of Microsoft. To bring up a menu you can click the device’s center button when you are listening to a song on the Zune’s built-in FM radio that makes it different from other fm radios. “Add to Cart” is a new menu item that is added in new version that adds song on the spot to your shopping cart. You can purchase and download the song immediately while you are on a Wi-Fi network. This is the way that is making the Zune substantially more attractive than the iPod. Microsoft announces that half of Zune users tune in to a radio station at least once a week.
Tuesday September 16 the new Zunes will go on rummage sale & as a free upgrade the same day all new features will all be available to current Zune users.
