Flash Back of India- Sri Lanka Series

The collapse against Ajantha Mendis and Muttiah Muralitharan in Test matches of India against Sri Lanka had raised expectations from the Indian one-day team exponentially, but on 27th of August at night, when a group of men shouted and yelped at the Premadasa Stadium, nearly each and everyone give a standing ovation in appreciation to the Indian Team Performance. For India, this 3-2 victory, decorated by the extra ordinary efforts of their mid-pacers and the trustworthy bat of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, always proved a bit heavy on the Lankan tigers.
India’s batting was much better than that of the Lankans. Lankan batsman failed in even chasing small scores of India. India was the more reliable team and were the most deserving side to triumph the series, but it was not a completely glib triumph, as leaving Suresh Raina and Dhoni, India’s batsmen failed. Indian consistent opener Gautam Gambhir, after a well played Test series, had a totally unacceptable outing. He at no ocassions got past the Powerplays. His efforts to take on the medium-pacers led to his collapse. Same was the case for Yuvraj Singh, who got thrust and poked and just managing 72 runs in the series. Talented Rohit Sharma’s performance will also be under question after a deprived series, though proved out to be a sufferer of bad umpiring on two occasions.

Series Level At One All

At the low scoring match here at Dambulla India outplayed the home team to level the series. India won the toss and elected to bat. Things went right for India right through the beginning. Zaheer Khan gave early shocks to Lankans and pushed them in the back foot. Lankans were 11/4 at one stage but somehow managed to get 142 in the board. This Lankan innings included a well made 44 of Tushara and 26 of Kalusakera. Zaheer got four wickets under his belt. 3 wickets were picked by Praveen Kumar as well. Indian reply to this run chase got a poor start.
At one stage they were five down with only 75 on the board. But then the partnership between Dhoni and Badrinath took gave an edge to the Indians in the match. Dhoni finally got out after his bravely made 39. On the other hand Badrinath continued batted patiently to guide India home safely. Badrinath made unbeaten fighting 27. Zaheer Khan was been rewarded with the man of the match award for his four wickets. India at last won the match by three wickets.

Master Blaster’s Poorest Ranking Since 1992

Cricketing God Sachin Tendulkar slipped to the poorest test ranking of his since 1992. His poor performance against Sri Lanka had played the leading role in his fall back. Sachin Tendulkar managed to score just 95 runs in the complete series with a horrible average of 15.83.
According to the recently exposed rankings of International Cricket Council Master of cricket has been dropped below to 23rd rank. This is his lowest ICC rank of Test cricket Batsman. Before the test series against Sri Lanka started, Tendulkar was positioned in 13th spot but his low average performance against Sri Lanka takes him down in test ranking. Indian attacking opener Virender Sehwag is once again back in top 10 batsmen for test cricket after March 2006. Sri Lankan wicket batsman Kumar Sangakarra brilliant performance against India has taken him to number 2 spot and he is just behind the Caribbean batsman Shivnaraine Chandrepaul. Sachin Tendulkar also injured himself during the third test at Colombo when he tried for a catch. Sachin Tendulkar must get fit soon and overcome his poor form because the world loves watching Sachin when he is in its full form.

A past sufferer of a Anil Kumble’s snorter few years back in 2000 in the Asia Cup, Saba Karim asked Indian young wicket keeper Parthiv Patel to wear a helmet against the spinner, but he ignored the advice, which resulted in Parthiv’s bloodied nose. But he was lucky to got a hit on the nose,” Karim told PTI.
